This recognition inspires me to continue pushing the boundaries of excellence in GI endoscopy, patient care and education.”

Dr. Maydeo is an endoscopic surgeon. He has been in the practice of gastroenterology and GI endoscopy for 35 years, and he is the chairman of the Institute of Gastrosciences at the Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai.

Dr. Maydeo was one of the first physicians to introduce interventional GI endoscopy procedures in India, and he established one of India’s first GI Endoscopy centers in 1993.

Dr. Maydeo was the first physician to introduce 3rd space endoscopy procedures like POEM, STER, Z-POEM, G-POEM in India, and he launched India’s first bariatric endoscopy program in 2018 – as well as endoscopic anti-reflux procedures like ARMS, ARMA and EFTP – in 2019.

Dr. Maydeo was the president of the Society of GI Endoscopy of India in 2003, and he has been a pioneer in the areas endoscopic treatment of chronic pancreatitis, ERCP for difficult bile duct stones, variceal GI bleeding and 3rd space endoscopy over the past 30 years.

Dr. Maydeois an avid clinician and researcher, and he has written more than 90 papers that have been published in peer reviewed international journals. He has also written 7 book chapters that have been published in international and national textbooks. He was appointed to the international editorial board of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, is co-editor of the Endoscopy International Open Journal and has received multiple outstanding reviewers awards from the ASGE.

In 2013, the president of India honored Dr. Maydeo with ‘The Padmashri’ – one of the country’s highest civilian awards – for his outstanding contributions to the field of medicine and gastroenterology.

Dr. Maydeo is an avid teacher that has conducted more than 20 International ‘LIVE’ endoscopy courses. He has been a visiting faculty in India and other countries to lecture and demonstrate advanced GI endoscopy procedures. Dr. Maydeo also runs the popular Endoscopy Gurukul training institute, where aspiring endoscopists from India and elsewhere learn basic and advanced GI endoscopic procedures, and he reaches numerous GI endoscopy trainees all over the world with his teaching YouTube channel.
