Dr. Chahal is the Steven Schenker Distinguished Professor of Medicine (Tenure) and chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Human Nutrition at University of Texas Health San Antonio. She completed her internal medicine residency, gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship and advanced endoscopy fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Chahal’s area of clinical expertise is advanced endoscopy with a focus on interventional endoscopic ultrasound and ERCP.
Dr. Chahal’s research is focused on pancreatobiliary endoscopy, and she is credited with writing more than 150 peer reviewed articles and book chapters that have been published.
Dr. Chahal has chaired several committees of national societies, and she currently chairs ASGE’s Membership Committee, is the vice chair of ASGE’s ERCP SIG and was the inaugural chair of the ASGE Women’s SIG.
Dr. Chahal is recognized as an exemplary educator, one that has been an member of education committees for several GI societies. She has served as the course co-director of several ASGE courses and webinars, including ASGE’s annual post graduate course at DDW.
Dr. Chahal has mentored more than 40 trainees, many of whom are national leaders in gastroenterology.
