Dr. Edmundowicz is a professor of medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine Anschutz Campus in Aurora, Colorado and the medical director of endoscopy at the University of Colorado Hospital. He received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and he completed his residency training in internal medicine and a GI fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He has held academic leadership positions at Washington University, Thomas Jefferson University, Allegheny Health System and the University of Colorado.
Over the course of his 36-year career in gastroenterology, Dr. Edmundowicz has been involved with the ASGE, its courses, DDW programs, committee structure and leadership. He had 14 different committee and board roles with the ASGE before joining its Governing Board as a councilor in 2010. Dr. Edmundowicz served as ASGE’s treasurer, president-elect and president (in 2019). During his presidency, Dr. Edmundowicz worked with ASGE president-elect John Vargo, MD, to develop the Gastroenterology Organizational Leadership Development (GOLD) program, which they have co-chaired for 5 years. Dr. Edmundowicz has been an active participant in the ASGE Foundation Circle of Light since its inception, and he has supported every ASGE Foundation campaign as a donor. He says, “The interactions with friends, professional colleagues and staff through the ASGE has been one of the true pleasures and highlights of my career.”
Dr. Edmundowicz remains clinically active at the University of Colorado, and he enjoys hiking, skiing and fly fishing in Colorado with his wife and 2 labradors. He has 4 adult children and 6 grandchildren who live in Los Angeles, Denver and Washington DC.
