The ASGE Endoscopic Training Award significantly bolstered my clinical proficiency and equipped me to advance gastroenterology services in Nigeria and West Africa.
Training Duration: February 15, 2024 - May 15, 2024
Summary
I had the privilege of receiving the 2023 ASGE Endoscopic Training Award, undertaking an intensive training program at Kasturba Hospital. The focus was on refining clinical skills and advancing endoscopic procedures to enhance patient care and resource utilization, especially in environments with limited healthcare infrastructure.
Training Objectives and Experience: During my time at Kasturba Hospital, I observed patient flow and resource management in the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department. I also gained hands-on experience in advanced endoscopic techniques, such as EUS and ERCP. Moreover, I collaborated closely with my mentor, Dr. Shiran Shetty, and initiated partnerships with Manipal Academy of Higher Education to further our clinical and research endeavors.
Conclusion
The ASGE Endoscopic Training Award significantly bolstered my clinical proficiency and equipped me to advance gastroenterology services in Nigeria and West Africa.

I strongly advocate for expanding ASGE training opportunities for professionals from low-income countries, fostering mentorship and collaboration to strengthen global healthcare delivery.
