Klaus Mergener, MD, PhD, MASGE, is an Affiliate Professor of Medicine at University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington. He trained at Frankfurt and Heidelberg University in Germany, and at Duke University and Harvard University in the U.S. He holds a PhD in molecular virology from the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg, where he worked with virologist and 2008 Nobel Prize Laureate Harald zur Hausen. He is a Past President of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
