Annually, each March, our GI community takes the valuable opportunity of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month to further educate the public about the importance of colorectal cancer screening, prevention, and treatment. Here’s what your colleagues are up to this month.
Lebanon Endoscopy Center
Julie Jones, RN BSN, Administrator at Lebanon Endoscopy Center in Lebanon, TN, shares “Lebanon Endoscopy Center is giving away a T-shirt to every patient that comes in. We also play ‘plinko’ to see what other promotional item they win! Weather permitting, on a few days we will set our ‘inflatable colon’ up and hand out information about getting screened!”
Enloe Medical Center
Leisa Ann Bunte, RN, Supervisor, Digestive Diseases Program at Enloe Medical Center in Chico, CA, shares, “Our approach is multi-faceted this month. We have planned something for each week (and food, of course 😉).” Plans include:
- Blue draw string bags identifying staff as GI Team, for all GI staff and colorectal staff.
- Blue t-shirts with ASGE logo for all GI staff.
- FaceBook Live: Interview with our Medical Provider, Dr. F. Cheng.
- Education department involvement: Lecture presentation and online-learning module
- Display case in the main hospital includes information for patients/family/staff regarding CRC, ASGE standards for CRC screening, California Law AB 342 and three patient care areas with messages to the community regarding CRC
