ASGE LEAD Program Celebrates 8 Years of Developing Female Leaders in GI

The LEAD program represents an investment by the Society in the development of diverse junior women in GI. To date more than 130 women have participated in the program.

Schmitt, MD, MHS, MASGE, she recalls telling the first class in 2014, “Look around you and see the future leadership of our profession.” From academics to private practice, you will recognize many of them as leaders in the field of GI today.

The LEAD Program is a 12-month program offering female gastroenterologists an opportunity to enhance their leadership and career development skills through education, coaching and building professional networks.

“My goal in creating this program was to provide the knowledge and skills needed to develop a path that would drive more female gastroenterologists in leadership professionally and within ASGE. I am so pleased to see how far the program has come,” said Dr. Schmitt.

Now underway, meet the 2021 class. This year’s program chairs, Jennifer Maranki, MD, FASGE and Brintha Enestvedt, MD, MBA designed the program and serve as mentors to the participants for the entire year. Dr. Maranki said, “Every year the program is different with the same end goal in mind: to work with participants to develop their leadership skills and personal influence in their careers.”
